Frequently asked questions

Is Product Hunt free?

Yes. Submitting a launch, commenting, and reaching Product of the Day are all free. Never pay for upvotes. See "How Product Hunt works".

Do I need a hunter?

No. You can, and should, hunt your own product. Hunting just means posting. There's no advantage to having someone else post it for you.

Can I launch from a company account?

No. Product Hunt is a community of people, so launches and comments must come from personal accounts. Your co-makers should use their own accounts too.

What do I need to submit a launch?

A personal account with a verified email address, your product URL, a name, a tagline, a description, at least one launch tag, a logo, at least one gallery image and your role (maker or hunter). See "Build your product page".

When does my launch go live?

At 12:01 AM Pacific Time on the date you schedule. You can schedule from tomorrow up to 30 days ahead. See "Set your goals and pick your launch date".

What's the best day to launch?

The day you're most prepared for and can be fully present. There's no day that guarantees a top spot. See "Set your goals and pick your launch date".

Why wasn't my launch featured?

Featuring is an editorial decision. Our team curates the homepage, and the Featuring Guidelines explain what we look for, but meeting them doesn't guarantee a spot. A launch that isn't featured is still live and can be found through your link and the "See all of today's products" button on the homepage. See "What kind of products get featured".

How do I promote my launch?

Share your link wherever your audience is, and ask people to try it and leave feedback. Never ask for upvotes. See "How to promote your launch".

Why is a launch with fewer upvotes ranked above mine?

The leaderboard uses upvotes, comments, time since launch, and other signals, not upvotes alone. See "What to do during and after your launch".

Someone else already posted my product. What now?

You can ride the wave and relaunch later with a major update, or email us at hello@producthunt.com and we'll help. See "Set your goals and pick your launch date".

How often can I launch?

Every time you ship a major update. If your last launch was less than two months ago, you'll need to submit a relaunch request. See "Relaunch your product".

Why was my account marked as spam?

Accounts are flagged when their activity breaks our Community Guidelines, for example by asking for upvotes, using multiple accounts, or posting from a company account. If you think it's a mistake, email us at hello@producthunt.com.

Launch myths

Myth: Every upvote counts the same. False. Upvotes from established, active community members earn your launch far more points than upvotes from brand-new or low-quality accounts. That's why a wave of upvotes from people who just signed up barely moves a launch, and real engagement from the community does.

Myth: A launch is only worth it if you finish #1. False. Many launches hit their goals without topping the leaderboard. Feedback, users, and connections count too.

Myth: You need a famous hunter. False. Anyone can hunt, and we encourage makers to post their own product. Who posts it doesn't affect ranking.

Myth: Linking directly to your product gets you penalized. False. We encourage you to link straight to your product.
